Q What is a Vegeterrainian fuel system?
A The Vegeterrainian system is a Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) conversion kit that allows your diesel car or truck to use vegetable oil instead of diesel as a fuel source. It uses the vehicles existing Diesel fuel tank, an accessory aluminum fuel cell, and two thermal transfer units to burn vegetable oil . During startup the vehicle runs normally on diesel or biodiesel. After the vehicles engine has warmed to 130 degrees or more the operator can then switch to the vegetable oil tank.. The fuel cells thermal transfer copper coils warm the vegetable oil and sends it to a secondary bimetallic heat exchanger near the engines fuel injection pump where it is reheated to temps well above 130 degrees and finally the vegetable oil is injected directly into the engine. When the vehicle is shut down the vegetable oil is reversed through the fuel system all the way back to the accessory fuel tank by the purge valve.
Q What is a purge valve ?
A The purge valve is actually a servo driven 6 port valve that is operated by a accessory toggle switch mounted on the vehicles dash. The valves function is to redirect the primary diesel fuel supply through the vegetable oil supply line for a short period ( usually about 30 to 60 seconds) depending on the vehicle.
Q Why do I need a purge valve?
A Vegetable oil will gel or become solid at lower temps . Flushing the system insures that all of the Vegeterrainians fuel systems components are cleaned and ready for the next start up cycle. This is a very important feature especially for those users that live in cold climates .
Q Even if I purge the system won’t the Vegetable oil still gel in the tank?
A Installing a accessory inline coolant heater will insure that the vegetable oil will be ready when you are, even in the coldest weather.
QWhere do you get vegetable oil?
A You can often collect it from local restaurants. Owners are glad to give their waste oil away as they generally have to pay to get rid of it.
Q What vehicles can be converted?
A Our system is designed to work with any diesel car or light truck .The most common foreign diesel passenger vehicles available in the United States are made by Volkswagen and Mercedes. The most common truck for conversion is a Ford F series pickup or Dodge Cummins.
Q Can I install the system?
A The Vegeterrainian conversion kit is designed for a do-it-yourself installation. Some vehicles may be more complicated than others depending on your experience and mechanical aptitude. You can always contact us for professional installation .
Q What are the differences if any between the Vegeterrainian system and other Higher priced systems ?
A The Vegeterrainian system has been designed to offer dependable operation : Tig welded aluminum fuel cells, Bimetallic thermal transfer unit with 10 micron filter, brass fittings ,CNC aluminum tees ,manifolds and servo driven valves make the Vegeterrainian the best money can buy.
